First Sale
10-27-2025 - I have been working for this moment since we started Webb Punt Boats on August 15th. We built a shop, created the prototype, built the first production model, tested the boat, and shown it in the annual Georgetown Wooden Boat Show. Now, it is sold.
Well, to be truthful, this one was sold before it ever got started. When I told my brother that we started Webb Punt Boats, he made me promise that he gets to buy the very first boat, and it had to be signed and numbered. After I figured out prices, I told him the cost of the boat. I also stated he had to add a 1 dollar bill (signed) so that I could frame and put it up on my wall for our first dollar. I kept my promise and he kept his. I have my first dollar from a Webb Punt Boat.
We took the boat to him just this weekend, the trip over there put the total miles on the boat and trailer at over 1000 since it was built. It road perfectly. All stowed accessories (seats, paddles and push poles) stayed where they should have.
He loved the boat. He said it was exactly what he wanted and needed for getting into the small lakes and swamps where he lives. He said he already knew exactly where to go to catch some huge brim and bass, It was a lake that you could only get to by something like a kayak, this would be perfect. I told him that we will take it out for a float check together.
So yesterday morning, we took the boat to a small lake near the house, the lake was low and we couldn’t get the trailer into the water to launch. As with the float check, we had to pick it up and launch it by hand. I have never weighed the boat and asked him what he thought it weighed, he stated probably between 150 to 175 lbs. Since we were going out in the boat together, we were going to start out using the seats. He climbed in first and walked to the back of the boat and placed his seat where he wanted it. He loved the fact that the seat could be placed anywhere. This would help for control and comfort. I pushed off from the shore and jumped in. I grabbed my seat and put it into place and we were off.
We started out paddling around the shore. The two of us together weigh about 400 lbs. , a little over 200 for me and probably just under 200 for him. I asked him to look to see how much draft the boat was drawing with both of us in it. He looked and stated between 2 and 3 inches of water.
As we got away from the landing I stood up, extended my paddle and resumed paddling. This was to show him how stable the boat was. I paddled for a little bit and then I asked him if he wanted to try, he said sure. I sat back down and didn’t even feel him standup as he began paddling. I asked him how he thought the boat felt. He was very satisfied with the stability and was comfortable standing.
We paddled around the lake for a little while longer, the lake was beautiful. It had cypress trees all around it and lily pads along the edge. There were no homes on this lake so it was all natural except for the boat launch. We paddled back to the launch and heading back to the house. I was very happy that he liked the boat.
Now, to start the row and sculling version… It will be 12ft by 4ft. It should be fun to test in the lakes around here.
